Longstanding trust and collaboration

About ARABOSAI

Arab Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions

ARABOSAI was established in 1976, and its members include all Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) that are also members of the League of Arab States.

ARABOSAI has 22 members in total, of which 10 are in Africa and 12 in Asia. These members vary in terms of SAI models, size, and level of development. The SAIs of Comoros, Djibouti and Somalia are members of ARABOSAI, but due to language, they participate in IDI-CREAFIAF initiatives.

ARABOSAI supports member SAIs in strengthening their capacities, fostering the exchange of experiences among them and enhancing their engagement with stakeholders.

What distinguishes IDI-ARABOSAI cooperation?

Collaboration between IDI and ARABOSAI started in IDI’s early days, and the relationship has grown to be deeper, closer, and more diversified. Factors contributing to this are the mutual trust and the smoother communication the two organisations have been able to build.

IDI-ARABOSAI collaboration is outcome oriented. It is built to last and to produce sustainable results.

How do IDI and ARABOSAI coordinate their cooperation efforts?

IDI attends all meetings of ARABOSAI’s Institutional Strengthening Committee currently chaired by SAI Saudi Arabia. It is the forum where IDI-ARABOSAI initiatives are planned and reviewed. The initiatives are implemented in close collaboration with the ARABOSAI Secretariat hosted by SAI Tunisia.

What are the cooperation results achieved so far?
Thanks to IDI/ARABOSAI cooperation, many SAIs’ pools of specialists have been created in various areas like Training Specialists, eLearning specialists, LMS administrators, and ISSAI facilitators in Financial, Compliance and Performance Audit. These pools are used by their SAIs to strengthen their own capacities. They are also used by ARABOSAI and by IDI to support other SAIs from the region and worldwide.
Many SAIs have been supported to conduct relevant audits like SDGs audits, audits of the institutional framework for fighting corruption, Compliance audits of procurements, performance audits and financial audits. Many of these audits resulted in quality assured reports issued by the SAIs.
The cooperation resulted also in reinforcing the organizational and institutional capacities of SAIs. Through their participation in IDI/ARABOSAI initiatives many SAIs were able to develop for instance strategic plans, stakeholder engagement strategies, crises management policies, and HRM Strategies. Many others were supported in conducting SAI PMF and other types of assessments.
