Archana Shirsat is the Deputy Director General of the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI). She is a part of the leadership at the IDI Secretariat and heads the department for Professional and Relevant SAIs. Her department supports SAIs in developing competent SAI audit professionals, effective SAI audit leaders, sustainable SAI audit practices and raising the profile of SAI audits to demonstrate impact.

Ms. Shirsat was educated in India at the University of Mumbai and underwent leadership and professional training at the National Academy of Audit & Accounts in Shimla, India. She is also an IDI certified adult training specialist from the ASOSAI region.

She started her career as an Indian Audit and Accounts Service officer. Between 1997 and 2004, she held leadership roles across a range of audit and education portfolios at the SAI of India. From 2005 to 2010, she worked in IDI on secondment. She managed IDI portfolios in AFROSAI-E, CAROSAI, EUROSAI and was the eLearning Manager for IDI. From 2010 to 2012, she returned to SAI India, where she led a regional training institute and an office auditing oil & gas and aviation sector. She returned to IDI in 2012 as Assistant Director General responsible for IDI support for ISSAI Implementation. In 2014, she was appointed as the Deputy Director General & Head of Programmes. Since 2017, her portfolio includes professional and relevant SAIs workstreams. In 2021, her department started offering professional qualification for SAI auditors ( PESA) and launched The Centre for SAI Audit Professionals in 2023. She advocates for SAIs as key actors in the accountability ecosystem for promoting trust and effective, accountable, and inclusive public institutions. Since 2025, Ms Shirsat is a member of the Forum for INTOSAI Professional Pronouncements ( FIPP), which is a part of the standard-setting mechanism for public sector audit standards.
