CRISP – Crisis and Risk Management for SAI Performance

Anticipate Risk. Lead Through Crisis.

In an era marked by rapid change and unpredictability, public institutions must be prepared to manage risks and respond effectively to crises. Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) are no exception, their ability to remain resilient directly affects public trust and the quality of governance.

The Crisis and Risk Management Initiative (CRISP) helps SAIs anticipate, prepare for, and respond to risk and disruption. Part of IDI’s Well-Governed SAIs work stream, CRISP supports SAIs to embed risk management into their daily operations, ensuring they can continue delivering independent oversight even in the face of political, financial, or organisational challenges.

Why CRISP?

Good governance is about foresight as much as accountability. For SAIs, this means not only identifying risks but actively managing them, from operational vulnerabilities to wider national crises.

CRISP equips SAIs to develop the systems, leadership capacity, and culture needed to handle risk confidently and recover stronger from shocks. Through practical training, peer collaboration, and tailored guidance, the initiative strengthens the foundations of resilient institutions that can lead by example in the public sector.

What CRISP Offers SAIs:

1. Enterprise Risk Management

CRISP supports SAIs in building comprehensive risk management frameworks that integrate with strategic and operational planning. Participants learn to identify, assess, and mitigate risks in line with international best practices, ensuring informed decisions and sustainable governance.

2. Crisis Management

SAIs gain the tools and skills to navigate crises effectively, from internal disruptions to external emergencies. Training and simulations help management teams strengthen preparedness, continuity planning, and leadership under pressure.

3. Expert Platforms

CRISP creates a platform for exchange between SAI professionals and experts from across the public and private sectors. Through workshops and events, participants benefit from diverse perspectives and real-world insights into risk and crisis management.
