Meet IDI Board Member Dr. Agus Joko Pramono (Vice Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia)

Meet IDI Board Member Dr. Agus Joko Pramono (Vice Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia)

Part of IDI's "Meet our Board Members" series

Dr. Pramono has been the Vice Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) since 2019. He also serves as Vice-Chair of The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations (IAAC), a position he was appointed to in January 2021 having been a member of IAAC since 2020.

Prior to becoming Vice Chairman, Dr. Pramono served as Board Member of BPK from October 2014 to October 2019. While serving as Board Member, Dr. Pramono was appointed as an Advisory Board Member of Indonesian Institute of Accountants (IAI) for a period of 2018 - 2020 and Chairman of Advisory Board of the Public Sector Accounting of the Institute of Indonesia Chartered Accountants from 2016 to 2019.

Dr. Pramono holds a doctoral degree in Public Administration from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Padjajaran University, and a Master's in Accounting from Gadjah Mada University.

As IDI’s Board prepares for its meeting on 25 March 2021, we asked Dr. Pranomo a few questions about governance and what it means to be a new member of the Board.

How does being a SAI leader inform your role as an IDI Board member?

"Professional experience and networking are the foundation of success. My role as Vice Chairman of Indonesia's SAI, BPK, allows me the ability to draw upon the experience of so many auditors and institutions at national and international level, over so many years. It has also been a privilege to draw upon the cooperation within ASEANSAI from BPK's position as longer-term Secretariat, as well as the active participation within the INTOSAI regional and working groups. I think, ultimately, I appreciate the many voices that are heard within the IDI approach to SAI strengthening and SAI success and I seek to listen to these perspectives as an IDI Board member."

How does your membership of the Board enrich the SAI and its employees?

"My position on the IDI Board is fairly new, but it is rewarding to include the perspectives of IDI and the IDI Board into the vision of BPK to see that, just as Indonesia is part of the global community, BPK also has a role to play in the global network of SAI's. This larger outlook opens up opportunity within developing strategic plans, in promoting best practices, by staying up to date, and in remaining ready to embrace needed changes. On very practical terms, many BPK teams have undertaken specific IDI Programs as project teams, participants, facilitators and subject matter experts and have accordingly boosted individual and professional competence. My position on the IDI Board, I believe, helps motivate the SAI to reach for new institutional and individual milestones."

What are you most looking forward to bringing to and learning from the IDI Board?

"It is an honor and a privilege to participate in IDI's mission to build up and scale-up SAIs the world over. Hopefully, I will bring some amount of the collective experience of BPK in its role of coordination within Indonesia, across ASEANSAI as well as international community within the INTOSAI and the United Nations. Given the long-time horizon and broad reach of the IDI, I hope to learn how SAIs can direct themselves to achieve both harmonised goals and fulfill their individual leadership roles to provide steady oversight, insight and foresight in sustainably managing public resources."
