The ongoing effects of Covid-19 feature prominently in the latest issue of the INTOSAI Journal, as audit staff around the world adjust to the new normal.
IDI's Petra Schirnhofer and Marie-Hélène Bérubé of the Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation discuss the positive role SAIs can play in monitoring and mitigating the effects of Covid-19 on women and girls, who are being affected disproportionally by the crisis. Young leaders from Botswana, China, Costa Rica, The Gambia, Jamaica, Kosovo, Malaysia, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Tunisia, and Turkey discuss their strategies for adapting to the new situation and how they see leadership evolving as a result of Covid-19. Claire Schouten of the International Budget Partnership (IBP) shares results from the latest Open Budget Survey, where the vast majority of governments assessed "failed to reach the minimum threshold for adequate budget transparency and oversight under international standards". IBP has launched a global call to action to encourage all stakeholders to promote open budgets and improved accountability. IDI has joined with IBP in this call, and the two organisations will be releasing a joint report later this year on the role of audit in open budgeting. Read the full article here.
