Stakeholder Engagement Strategy Development

Over the past few years, SAIs have recognised the importance of engaging stakeholders to achieve the much-needed value and benefits as contained in ISSAI 12. It is in this vain that the IDI in 2017, embarked on a programme on stakeholder’s engagement whose objective is greater audit impact through stakeholders.

Included in the strategy is the training of SAI teams across the INTOSAI regions in undertaking stakeholders mapping, developing strategies and practical sharing of experience in stakeholder engagement practices.

The second training workshop for SAIs from CAROSAI and AFROSAI-E was held from 11-22 June 2018 in Entebbe Uganda and a total of 22 SAI staff participated. The participants from AFROSAI-E came from Uganda, The Gambia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Lesotho, Eritrea, Seyschelles and eSwatini (Swaziland) while CAROSAI team were from Belize and Haiti.

To enhance sharing of experience in stakeholder engagement practices, resource persons from across the INTOSAI region namely Guam, Philippines, South Africa (AFROSAI-E), Kenya, Sierra Leone Norway (IDI) and Zambia participated in this training workshop. As stakeholder engagement cut across all SAI functions, discussions were also held on how this programme fit in with other interventions that the IDI is implementing such as SAI fighting Corruption, SAI independence among others. At the end of the training workshop, SAI teams developed draft strategy plans to be employed in engaging with the identified key stakeholders during the short, mid and long term in line with the overall SAI strategic plan.
